S1: BRUTALISM
after my research on soviet architecture i noticed that most of it resembled simple 3d shapes. this has led me to create some designs using these 3d shapes to explore depth, highlights, shadows, how different perspectives alter shapes and how composition of identical shapes can form interesting structures.
during my visit to Ukraine i was able to photograph some of the soviet Brezhnev apartment blocks. these structures are often described as being 'lego-like' due to their cuboid shape which has been effectively 'copy and pasted' around the whole of the ussr.
